We kept each other entertained though, Brett taught me the ABC game and we played it for hours! Days actually, ha ha. We also made sure we always had music on to keep us awake, and we would dance like fools! When we finally got to South Dakota, (yes that's where Mount Rushmore is, didn't know that? Don't feel too bad, we had no clue either) we were so happy! We could actually stop for a minute and breathe, and walk around to our hearts content!
That's when we missed a turn or took the wrong turn or something but we ended up in this little nature trail going 25 miles an hour, it felt like we were on those awful rides where you just go round and round and round till you're sick to your stomach. The curves would never end! It was a disaster, but it was a beautiful park, right in the middle of no where filled with gorgeous trees and flowers. We saw a few wild animals there, we saw a long horned something and big buffalo. They weren't even bothered by us, they'd just eat grass and not even look up at us! But it was cool seeing them so close! So we drove, and drove, and drove, entered a cave, crossed a bridge, through a tunnel and another bridge and drove, and drove...
Eventually the curvy road lead us to a beautiful look out point. We could see Mount Rushmore! It was too far away but we could see it! It was so fun, then we hopped back in the car and drove for another while and finally found the right road to Mount Rushmore. We drove up to the ticket booth and we didn't have cash on us and the nice lady let us in and told us to pay her after we left. We were so surprised that she trusted us! Anyhow, we get out of the car and are ready to see this thing! It was beautiful. and huge. I can't believe its still standing! It's been done for about 70 years and it looks perfect. I mean how many people can carve on granite? And guess what! Most of it was carved by dynamite!! Don't believe me? Google it! They would use just the right amount of dynamite to carve a main part and then do the small details with tools. It was so fun to learn so much about the history and the making of Mount Rushmore. We loved it! I felt like a little girl on a field trip!
