Today an investigator came over to our apartment for dinner... His name is James, he's 44 and he knows a thing or two about life. When we invited him into our home he was thrilled, he told us we couldn't come to his house for dinner because he wouldn't have enough food to feed us. Brett and I love missionary work so we were more than happy to have him over. He told us about his life and about his lady friend. What a man of faith! I wasn't having a good day, I was getting down on myself the whole day and this man I've never interacted with came over and lifted my spirits just by his example.
I don't know everything he's giving up to be baptized into our church, I don't know all the trials he has gone through that has shaped his life today but I know that he has a faith in God that is unshakable. He knows that God loves him, hears his prayers and wants the best for him. He knows that he has to put God first in his life for things to run smoothly.
I can't recall all the things we talked about today, for most of the time I couldn't even speak because I was so amazed at his character and faith. Life is simple for James, you love the Lord and serve him and you'll get blessings in return.
A man who tells me he's not smart because he didn't finish his schooling, is a scholar in my mind.
A man who tells me he has a lazy eye and might become blind, sees life absolutely perfectly.
A man who acts like he's not that important, has influenced many peoples lives.
Its strange to me to tell you so much about a man I've only spent a few hours with, but that doesn't matter... James came into our home and brought the Spirit with him. He brought faith to me when I needed it. He brought comfort and happiness.
We are so blessed. James was my tender mercy today, I needed to feel his strength and spirit. I needed to be uplifted. I am so blessed to have a Heavenly Father who knows me and knows my needs, who helps me and lifts me up. I am blessed to be living here in Michigan and to be meeting such wonderful people and going through things that will make me into the person I'm supposed to be.
And most of all, I'm blessed with a husband who loves me and wants the best for me, who is in tune with the Spirit and listens to Heavenly Father. A husband who loves the gospel, who loves the Lord before anything else.
I'm so grateful for this earthly experience that challenges me and helps me grow. I'm grateful for the tender mercies I receive every single day in my life. Big or Small.
James will get baptized June 2nd :)
